Clean Electricity
Transitioning Our Community's Power Supply
On April 3, 2019, the Missoula County Commissioners and the Missoula City Council adopted a joint resolution that established a joint goal of 100% clean electricity for the Missoula urban area by 2030.
Missoula County is working to develop new utility-scale clean electricity, and is active at the state level on energy policy issues to help promote a clean energy future.
Green Power Program
Missoula County has partnered with the Cities of Missoula and Bozeman to work with NorthWestern Energy on the Green Power Program – a plan to build a large (50 megawatt) new renewable energy project to help power our communities. In addition to powering government-owned buildings, local residents and businesses will be able to opt in and receive its benefits as well.
Our communities and NorthWestern are currently working on the technical details. Click here to learn more about this process and to sign up for updates.
Interlocal Agreement
Missoula County has established an Interlocal Agreement with the Cities of Missoula, Bozeman and Helena to guide our joint effort to develop a Renewable Rate Option for NorthWestern Energy customers, with the goal of spurring the development of new, large-scale renewable energy projects in Montana.
