With the federal primary less than a week away, the Missoula County Elections Office encourages voters to drop off their ballots instead of mailing them to ensure they will be counted for the Tuesday, June 2, election.

Elections Administrator Bradley Seaman reports that as of May 26, 22% of the ballots his office mailed out for the primary election have been returned.

Leading up to Election Day, voters can drop off their ballots any time in the secure afterhours drop-box at the Elections Center, located at 140 N. Russell St. in Missoula.

If voters wait until Election Day to drop their ballots off, elections officials recommend they avoid the traffic at the Elections Center by using one of the convenient drive-thru ballot drop-off locations that will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day only:

  • McCormick Park, 600 Cregg Lane
  • Baseball fields at Hellgate Elementary, 2835 Flynn Lane
  • South Russell Street between the Fairgrounds and the YMCA

Voters can also drop off ballots at any polling place on Election Day. A full list of polling places is available at missoulavotes.gov

Voters must return their ballots by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Postmarks are not sufficient, and the U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing ballots no later than seven days before the election. Voters can confirm the Elections Office has received and accepted their ballot by visiting www.MyVoterPageMT.com

Voters who have not opted to receive their ballots by mail will vote at their polling place on Election Day. The Elections Office encourages voters to confirm their polling place and other information ahead of time at www.MyVoterPageMT.com.

If residents still need to register to vote, change their address or make most other updates to their registration, they must do so in person at the Elections Center during the following hours:

  • Tuesday through Friday, May 26-29: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 30: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Monday, June 1: 8 a.m. to noon
  • Tuesday, June 2: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters can also visit the Elections Center to receive a replacement ballot, pick up an undeliverable ballot and access other voter services. Staff will provide voter services in the green building on the east side of the parking lot.

Voters can contact the Elections Office at [email protected] or 406-258-4751 with questions.
